Help for Applicants and Consumers
If you were screened by Horizon Background Screening as part of an employment or volunteer application, this page explains how to complete your application, request a copy of your report, and dispute information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
Horizon is a consumer reporting agency. We prepare background reports at the request of employers and organizations. Your employer, not Horizon, makes all hiring and employment decisions.
Completing Your Application
Your employer will send you a secure link to complete your background screening application online. Most applicants finish in about 10 to 15 minutes. Use your full legal name and the same email address your employer used, and review each screen carefully before submitting.
Our Applicant Guide walks you through each screen of the application and explains how to avoid common delays.
Download the Applicant GuideFor questions about the position or hiring process, contact your employer. For technical problems with the application, email info@horizonscreening.com with your full name, the employer’s name, and a brief description of the problem.
Requesting a Copy of Your Report
You may request a copy of the report Horizon prepared about you. To keep a clear record of your request, please make it by email:
- Email info@horizonscreening.com with your full name, a phone number where we can reach you, the name of the employer or organization that requested your report, and the approximate date you applied.
- A Horizon team member will call you to verify your identity.
- Once your identity is confirmed, we will provide your report through a secure method.
Disputing Information in Your Report
If you believe information in your report is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to dispute it. Horizon takes every dispute seriously.
- Email disputes@horizonscreening.com with your full name, a phone number, the employer that requested the report, and a description of the information you believe is wrong and why. If you have supporting documents, mention them and we will tell you how to send them securely.
- A Horizon team member will call you to verify your identity and confirm the details of your dispute.
- We reinvestigate the disputed information with the original source. Horizon makes every effort to complete disputes within 5 business days. The Fair Credit Reporting Act generally requires reinvestigations to be completed within 30 days.
- We communicate with both you and the employer during the process, and we send you the results in writing. If information is corrected or removed, the employer receives the updated report.
Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives you important rights, including the right to know what is in your file, to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information, and to be told if information in a report was used against you. Some states provide additional rights.
